Merry Christmas

We just wanted to say Merry Christmas and THANK YOU for all of the wonderful Christmas gifts we received. We are such lucky teachers and feel so loved. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas break!

Polar Express Day

Polar Express Day was a hit!!! We were cozy in our pajamas eating cookies and drinking hot chocolate. Merry Christmas!

Gingerbread Math

Today we did Gingerbread Math. We each took a bite of our gingerbread man cookie and then graphed the results. Earlier in the day we made puppets and performed the play The Gingerbread Man. It was a yummy activity!

Israel

We are getting to the end of Christmas Around the World. Our class learned about Hanukkah. Hanukkah lasts eight days and one candle is lit each night. We made our own Stars of David and dreidels to play with.

Mexico

Mexico was a lot of fun to learn about. Mexico is in South America. We read the book The Legend of the Poinsettia and made our our poinsettias. Ms. Garza brought us a traditional Mexican sweet bread called Conchas. It was yummy!

Kwanza

It's Kwanza Time! We had fun learning about the seven days of Kwanza and making our Kwanza mats.

Germany

Our first continent was Europe. We learned about the Christmas traditions in Germany. One thing we learned was that we received our tradition of Christmas trees and gingerbread from Germany.

Christmas Around The World

We started our Christmas Around the World unit. During our unit we will visit five different continents and learn about their Christmas traditions through literature.

Nouns

We have been learning a lot about nouns lately. Here is a fun review game to play!

Conferences

We had 100% attendance for conferences! THANK YOU!!! It was fun to talk to everyone and see how great your children are doing!

Miss Rumphius

This week we reviewed our theme Nature Walk. Today we read the book Miss Rumphius. We talked about what we could do to make the world more beautiful and then we created our own lupines!

Spooky Pumpkins

We had a blast with our spooky pumpkins. Thanks for everyone that donated a pumpkin. We did a lot of math activities with the pumpkins and got a little messy in the process!

Antonyms

This week we learned that an antonym is two words that mean the opposite. Play this battleship game to review what we learned!

Moon Pictures

Today we did some fun moon pictures! First we looked at pictures of the moon. We noticed the moon had lots of craters and was gray and brown. We used our glue bottles to create craters on our moons. After the glue dried we painted the moons.

Pumpkins!

Our New Friend

This morning before school one of our students found a banded woolly bear caterpillar on the playground. We had a fun day watching it crawl around and trying to come up with names for it!

Moon

We have started our moon unit in second grade. Our goal is to understand that the moon and stars change in the sky. Please observe and record changes in the moon each night on your record sheet!

Weather Book

This week we started our weather books. Each month we will be tracking and graphing the weather in our books. We will also be able to learn more about the months of the year and what makes each month and season special!

Nutrition Feast

We had a great time at our Nutrition Feast! Thanks for all of the donations that were sent in. Hope you like the pictures...I am now being asked to take specific pictures because they know they'll be on the blog! Too cute!
